Modern businesses understand the importance of having a strong company culture. Cultivating a good corporate culture proves to be a solid solution to enhance workflow, productivity, and revenue, according to Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business News and Media Blog, Fuqua Insights. In their article, “How Corporate Culture affects the Bottom Line” Fuqua Professors, along with professors from Columbia University, conducted a research study, surveying 1,800 CEOs and CFOs from across the globe and discovered that 90% of executives said that having a great corporate culture is essential at their firms. Many of them stating that culture is one of the top five things that makes their businesses valuable and that they were willing to improve upon it. Only 15% of those surveyed stated that their corporate culture didn’t need improving.

The team you create for your business is just as critical as the product or service that you are selling, and having a positive company culture is what drives consumer engagement and heightens workplace productivity. So, how can you improve your corporate culture? Here are five proven methods in increasing team and company success through your organizational culture:

  • Building strong team relationships. This method takes time and effort, but when accomplished, can promote better employee engagement and can assist in developing your team members’ skillsets. Encouraging coworker interactions foster a cultural environment where creativity and performance can flourish.
  • Promoting a team atmosphere means that every member of the team matters. Don’t look at any idea or input given as a bad one. Whether it’s from the intern or the assistant, everyone is an integral part of the team and deserves to be heard. Listening and engaging with each other allows for the mentality to shift from being an individual to becoming a unified team. It is essential to look at yourself within the organization as being a team member and not just an individual at a job. Be as transparent as possible. Transparency allows for your team members insight into the future of the company, the company’s mission, and core values, as well as enables coworkers to feel more a part of the team. When there are no kept secrets away from the employees, trust starts to develop and grow.
  • Always giving constructive and timely feedback. Annual or quarterly performance reviews don’t cut it. Feedback given right away or in a timely fashion allows for employees to correct themselves or their work, ask questions, and effectively learn along the way rather than that long laundry list of how terrible their work has been for the past 6-12 months. It is also crucial to allow and encourage growth; no employee knows how to do everything, and often, people are learning as they work. Studies have proven that consistent feedback is much more beneficial for not only correction, but it also helps the employee’s development and learning process.
  • Being flexible. Managers now realize that flexibility towards their employees significantly reduces turnover and boost overall corporate morale. From working parents needing a few hours to pick up kids and watch a school play to extended vacation leave, a reasonable amount of sick leaves, and work-from-home opportunities, employees work better when they can have a life outside of work.
  • Valuing your employees and allowing them the opportunity to work, learn, and grow will take your business a long way. Creating a fantastic workplace culture does take time, but it is truly worth it when you see your business blossom.
